THE NEW SCORPION BAND
“DRIVE THE COLD WINTER AWAY”
This is a rousing collection of traditional songs and dances, designed to bring light and warmth to the chilly days between Halloween and the New Year. The concert will feature the Band’s usual spectacular assembly of traditional and historical instruments, there will be some fine harmony singing and some toe-tapping dance tunes, virtuosically led by the fiddle and bagpipes. The music is complimented by seasonal readings from writers such as Thomas Hardy, William Barnes and Charles Dickens.
The New Scorpion Band is regarded as one of the most entertaining and original groups in British traditional music. It combines the talents of five musicians with a wide experience in many different fields of music, including folk, early and Baroque, orchestral, theatre and opera.
